Sugar Diabetes Diet

The most important dietary management is to avoid sugar in the diet or avoid consuming food with added sugar. Hence it is necessary to avoid consumption of cakes, candies, pastries, chocolates, jams and jellies as it contain high amount of refined sugar. However a person with diabetes can consume unto 10% of caloric intake as items containing added sugar. Thus person having unto 2000 calories per day can consume unto 50 gms or 10 teaspoon of sugar per day. The diabetics cannot consume more than this. Hence it is necessary to check the label for foods with added sugar. Apart from the term sugar the other terms that are considered as added sugar are which is caloric are: invert sugar, high fructose corn syrup, icing sugar, gur, honey, fruit juice concentrate, molasses and white sugar. Thus it essential to know that any added sugar in a food needs to be checked for diabetics. These sweeteners are caloric and are not a substitute for sugar.

Non caloric sweeteners are present that do not add calories and can provide the taste of sugar. Select that sweetener that are easily digestible, does not provide any after taste and can be used for cooking. However these types of sweeteners can be consumed only if it is approved medically and by the government.
