Asthma Advice

Most of the times an episode of asthma are triggered due to an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction can be due to some fur in the bed sheet, animal fur, certain drugs, perfumes, dust, weather change or some food allergies. Foods which generally cause an allergic reaction include eggs, yoghurt, milk, chocolates, potato, wheat, fish and MEAT. If you have an allergic reaction to meat there are possible chances that it can trigger an asthma attack. The major cause of allergies in breast-fed children or children on baby foods is due to cereals, meats, whole milk and corns in the products. So if you are allergic to meat then it would be wise to avoid meat altogether to avoid any flare up of asthma attacks. To check the allergic reaction you can maintain a diary of the foods you consume, try and reintroduce a small serving of meat in the diet after 2 months if there are any symptoms of wheezing or coughing then restrict meat in the diet completely. Omega -3 fatty acids found in fish act as a potent anti-inflammatory agent and many studies suggest that people including fish in diet have low incidences of asthma flare-ups. However certain foods with higher omega-6 to omega-3 ratio like meat, milk or margarine can also worsen asthma.  So instead of meat you can choose fish for a healthy diet and living with asthma.
