Choice of right foods helps in averting complications, such as heart diseases, retinopathy, nephropathy and others. Eating the right foods at the right time helps. Snacks that are nutritious are fitted in between the major meals. About four or five meals are recommended, instead of the regular three large meals. Regular exercise plays a vital role in keeping the sugar levels at bay. A chocolate or cracker proves handy, for hypoglycaemia, especially whenever out. About 1200 to 1600 calories are recommended, based on the body weight. Whole grain cereals are preferred than refined ones. Fruits and vegetables are healthy in the form of salads. Adequate amount of water, around eight glasses help in flushing off toxins. Intermediate snacks are helpful in preventing hypoglycaemia. Feasting or fasting is not recommended. Eating the right food at the right time plays a vital role in maintaining the blood glucose levels. Reduce the intake of fats and increase the dietary fibre in the diet. Fish is recommended twice a week. Lean meat, poultry and eggs are also included.
