Cures for Acidic Urine The pH of urine is between 5.8 and 7. It is slightly acidic to neutral. Infection is generally seen, when the pH levels are lesser than 5.5. Infection, in course of time, gives rise to alkaline urine with a pH of 7.5 or higher. Ascorbic acid is helpful in increasing the pH. Acidity in urine is typical of metabolic activity. Urinary pH is also low because of certain kinds of diet. Use of acidic fruits, like cranberries result in acidic urine. The pH of the urine is an indicator of the pH of the blood. In certain conditions, such as renal tubular acidosis, it is the other way round.
Urine is acidic in distal renal tubular acidosis, though the blood is alkaline. Foods that raise the urine's acidity are referred to as acid forming foods. Meat, grains, beans, corn, cranberries, coffee, fish, prunes and plums are acidic foods. Sour cream, supplements of hydrochloric acid, eggs, butter milk, wine, yoghurt and liver are very acidic foods. Apart from foods, soft water is acidic. Probiotics or helpful bacteria are helpful against bladder infections. Acidic urine is seen in case of dehydration, acidosis, respiratory diseases, starvation, uncontrolled diabetes and diarrhoea. A diet with legumes, citrus fruits and vegetables makes the urine alkaline.
