Alternative Diet for Gallstone

Improper breakdown of the bile results in crystallization, forming gall stones. Obesity, pregnancy and ageing are common causes of gall stones. Though a fat free diet is not recommended, fat restriction is necessary. Fresh fruits and vegetables are helpful as a part of the diet. Cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes are considered. The method of cooking plays a vital role. Grilling, pressure cooking, boiling, poaching and baking are preferred. Skin removed chicken and turkey, shellfish, salmon, haddock and cod are the animal foods recommended. Fatty meat and oily fishes are avoided. Low fat yoghurts and low fat milk puddings can be taken.

Gall stones or cholelithiasis varies in size. It is common in individuals with gastro intestinal surgery. Little fat in the diet helps in the contraction and relaxation of the gall bladder, resulting in the release of stones. A high fibre and high calcium diet helps in protecting from further degradation. Physical activity is helpful. Foods that cause flatulence are avoided. Vitamin supplementation is essential. Fats for frying and seasoning are not allowed. Green leafy vegetables are considered. Omega 3 fatty acids in flaxseed oil are helpful with olive oil and vinegar, as a salad dressing. Currants, prunes, melons, grapes figs and guava are recommended fruits.
