Weight loss is a term used to describe the reduction of total body mass by decreasing the amount of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue like bone mineral deposits, tendons, muscle mass and other tissue mass. The important thing to remember when trying to lose weight is to calculate the amount of fat that is needed to be lost. This can be done by using a body fat calculator like the body mass index or body fat percentage calculator which is most commonly available. Once you have calculated the how much fat you need to lose you will have to use a combination of proper exercise routine and a healthy diet in order to keep the weight loss consistent. A word of caution though; it is important to not undergo sudden weight loss by using crash diet methods as it tends to affect the normal functioning of your body. The best way to go about losing weight is to do so gradually. Consult your doctor in order to fully understand why you put on weight in the first place.

You can start your weight loss regime by maintaining a fitness journal in order to keep your exercise routine consistent; as this helps build continuity and is advantageous in the long run. Measure how much of weight you lost or gained every four weeks and make a proper plan of the meals you are going to eat for the rest of the week as it needs to match your exercise schedule. Gain support from your family and friends by telling them that you are trying to lose weight, this will help keep you motivated towards losing weight. Finally keep a relevant weight loss target for every two weeks and reward yourself when you have achieved it.

One of the best exercises that you can try when losing weight is walking. Walking helps speed up the body's metabolism and this pace is continued for up to two - four hours after you have finished walking. As a result you are able to burn fat better. When walking, make sure to move your arms around and take short fast strides. Posture is important when walking and hence make sure to keep you're back straight and also make sure to drink ample amounts of water both during and after your walking schedule. As per your diet is concerned, use a less of oil and fat in you diet. Eat breads that are whole grain varieties and avoid junk foods as much as possible. Eating as many green leafy vegetables as you can, will provide all the vital nutrients without the excess fat.
