Banana Carbs Tips 

Banana is one fruit which is often restricted by many people who are on a weight loss diet. The amount and type of carbohydrate in banana would depend on its degree of ripeness. As the fruit ripens the sugar content in the fruit would increase and the starch contend would decrease. The main difference between the sugar and starch is the length of each molecule. A sugar molecule is smaller than the starch and has one or two similar or different sugars bonded together. A starch molecule is longer and have chains of sugar bonded together to form a large chain. Thus this means that a banana with lot of simple sugar would be absorbed easily in the body than compared to a banana with high starch content. A medium sized banana would provide about 110 calories and 18 gm of carbohydrates. Banana not only provides carbohydrates but this fruit is also a good source of potassium, sodium, magnesium and other B-complex vitamins. The portion size of banana should be watched by banana lovers who want to lose weight or who have diabetes as the simple sugars from the ripe fruit can raise the blood glucose and insulin levels causing a spike.
