Information on Menopause Weight Gain

Many women tend to notice few pounds of weight gain when they are passing through their menopause. Weight gain is one of the most striking symptoms of menopause which can change the overall shape of your body. This is quite normal and almost 90% of women can expect weight changes during menopause. This change is basically due to the hormonal changes occurring in the body when a woman is passing through this stage. Weight gain is generally seen in the abdomen region and less in other parts like hips or thighs or arms, women tends to get a 'apple' shape body. Changes in the body hormones have a direct impact on the appetite, rate of metabolism and fat storage; so even if you are eating less and exercising the same as before you would notice that it would be very difficult to lose weight. The best thing to avoid excess weight gain during menopause is to eat a well balanced diet which restricts simple sugars, refined carbohydrates and its products and saturated fats. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet along with unprocessed cereals and grains. Avoid starvation or crash diet altogether and try to drink lots of water. Remain physically active, don't get depressed and stop working out even if you are not losing weight.
