Weight Gain in Women
The fat distribution in females is characterized by pear shape also called as gynoid fat distribution created by heavier deposits of fat around the thighs and buttocks to support during pregnancy and lactation. Post menopausal women follow the pattern of abdominal fat stores. As a result women are at greater risk for blood glucose and pressure abnormalities.
Hormonal imbalance and behavioral influences can also lead to weight gain. After years of processed foods, faulty diet, carbonated beverages, our body becomes insulin resistant, as a result of which our body converts calories that are being consumed to fat. This can lead to excessive weight gain and the ability to lose weight is nil.
Stress can lead to increased levels of cortisol which can interfere with the weight loss. Our body considers stress as a period of starvation and hence tends to store fat in the body. Stress for longer duration can lead to inflammation and fatigue. High carbohydrate diet leads to imbalances in the brain thus causing craving for sweets and chocolates.
As the women age, the ratio of estrogen to progesterone becomes high leading to increased fat cells and gain in weight.
Weight loss programs should combine a nutritionally balanced dietary regime with exercise and lifestyle modification at the least possible expense. Take a 30 minutes aerobic exercise daily. Have a balanced diet. Limit on high density carbohydrates, have more of complex carbohydrates. Take relaxation techniques to avoid stress.
