Information on Diet Soda

Diet sodas are also known through various names such as diet pop soda, sugar-free soda, light drinks, and low calorie carbonated beverages. These drinks although labeled under different terminologies are more or less aimed at an audience that seeks to control their sugar intake. Diet Sodas are usually made without the addition of sugar as a sweetener and the artificial forms of sweeteners are used to sweeten the drink. Diet sodas are usually non-alcoholic and usually carbonated. These forms of beverages are especially marketed and targeted towards those who are health-conscious, people with diabetics, sports-inclined individuals and athletes, and in general for those who aim to lose weight and stay fit. The common sweeteners in such diet or light sodas include Aspartame, Xylitol, and Acesulfame potassium, Sucralose, Saccharin or Stevia.

However there are a number of health concerns pertaining to the sweeteners in these sodas or diet drinks. Apart from the various side effects and health concerns that artificial sweeteners in the diet drinks contain, substitutes for sugar and caffeine in some diet sodas are not meant to be overused or consumed for a long period of time. Moreover diet sodas are not scientifically proven to be a tool in effective weight loss.
