Cholesterol Content of Foods

Meat, Fish and Poultry Low in Cholesterol are

De-skinned chicken and turkey, fresh fish like tuna, trout, salmon, cod, sole, perch, halibut and tuna and salmon packed in water and very lean cuts of beef, ham and pork.

Dairy Products Low in Cholesterol

Nonfat or skinned milk; low-fat yogurt, buttermilk, cheeses, sour cream, cottage cheese; cocoa; cheeses made from skimmed milk, canned evaporated non-fat milk; margarines high in poly-unsaturates; egg whites and egg substitutes.

Bread and Cereal Low in Cholesterol

Whole-grain and bran type cereals hot and cold; whole-wheat bran or oats muffins, whole wheat pita; rice cakes and bread sticks, homemade cookies and biscuits made with olive or canola oil and egg whites; whole-wheat, rye and cracked wheat breads.

Desserts and Snacks Low in Cholesterol

Honey and marmalade; frozen yogurt, non-fat ice cream or sherbet; peanut butter made with egg white only; vegetables, fruits and nuts; jam and jelly; homemade cookies, cakes, pastries, pies and pudding using non-fat milk, olive oil and egg whites.

Other Foods Low in Cholesterol

Fresh, canned or frozen fruits and vegetables; whole-grain rice, pastas and noodles; most fish except shellfish; raw or cooked vegetables without butter, margarine or sauces; baked beans, soy beans, chick-peas and lentils.
