Diet for Acidiosis

Since acidosis is caused by excess acid in the blood, the key to controlling acidosis is a balance of the acid-alkaline or pH ratio of the blood.



This excess acidity in the blood can be easily overcome by incorporating an alkaline-based diet. As the food we eat is digested and broken down into either an acid or alkaline end product also referred to as ash.



While our bodies need both acid-forming and alkaline-forming foods, the ratio of the alkaline-forming foods should be higher (around 80-20 percent) than the acid-forming foods.

Most flesh foods and cereals leave an acid ash, while fruits and vegetables leave an alkaline ash.



In addition, overeating, eating too fast, or when stressed, consumption of spicy and fatty foods contribute to heartburn and acidity. If you suffer from acidity, your diet should consist of foods with a high alkaline base, as alkali neutralize the acid.

Other types of acidiosis :

Other types of acidosis like metabolic acidosis result from abnormal metabolism and also because of various other complications like diabetes, kidney failure and poisoning. Lactic acidosis, respiratory acidosis, hyperchloremic acidosis and diabetic acidosis are the other types of metabolic acidosis.

While diet may not be the primary cause of metabolic acidosis like lactic acidosis, respiratory acidosis, hyperchloremic acidosis and diabetic acidosis; regulating one’s diet will go a long way in alleviating the acidic body condition.

Overcoming acidic body condition :

A 2-4 day fruit and vegetable juice fast is highly recommended to overcome an acidic body condition. Dried black raisins soaked overnight and had in the morning along with the water has been found to be extremely effective in restoring the alkaline balance. Similarly, citrus fruits like lemons and oranges, which display an acidic condition outside the body, are highly alkalizing once inside the body.

Exercising your body regularly through mild exercises is also beneficial.



This could be through brisk walking, cycling, swimming and deep breathing; as a sedentary lifestyle can also contribute to an acidic condition.
