Low Blood Pressure DietThe treatment for low blood pressure should aim at regeneration of the whole system.
To begin with, the patient should adopt an exclusive fresh fruit diet for about five days, taking three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits such as orange, apple, pineapple, grapes, pear, peach and papaya at five-hourly intervals. Thereafter, he may adopt fruit and milk diet for two or three weeks. After the fruit and milk diet, the patient may gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet consisting of seeds, nuts and grains, with emphasis on fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Further periods on an all-fruit diet, followed by milk and fruit diet may be necessary at two or three-monthly intervals in some cases, depending on the progress being made. The warm-water enema should be used daily to cleanse the bowels during the first few days of the treatment, and afterwards, if necessary. Those who are habitually consti¬pated should take all possible steps for its eradication in a natural way. Protein, vitamin C and all vitamins of B groups have been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of low blood pressure. Of these, pantothenic acid is of particular importance.
Liberal use of this vitamin also often helps in raising the blood pressure. A diet which contains adequate quantities of complete proteins, the B-vitamins and particularly the nutrients that stimulate adrenal production, normalize low blood pressure. The juice of raw beet root (chukandar) has been found 10 be one of the most effective remedies for low blood pressure. The patient should drink a cup of this juice twice daily for treating this condition. Considerable improvement will be noticeable within a week. The use of salt is valuable in low blood pressure. Until the blood pressure reaches normal levels through proper diatary and other remedies, it is essential that the patient should take salty foods and half a teaspoon of salt in water daily. Other Measures for Low Blood Pressure: Daily dry fiction 'and sponge should be undertaken by those suffering from low blood pressure.
They should also 1111dertake breathing and other light exercise like walking, swimming and bicycling. The patient should take sun and air bath and spend as much as possible in open air. The hot Epsom-salt bath is one of the simplest remedy for low blood pressure. The bath is prepared by dissolving one to one and a half kg. Of commercial Epsom salts in an ordinary bath of hot water. The patient should remain immersed in the bath from 10 to 20 minutes. This bath should be taken just before retiring to bed, and care should I)e exercised not to get chilled afterwards. All habits of living tending to set up enervation of the system, such as overwork, excess of all kinds, needless worry, wrong thinking, must eliminated as far as lies within tea power of the sufferer. TREATMENT CHART FOR LOW BLOOD PRESSURE A - DIET
I. An all-fruit diet for 5 days, with three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits at five-hourly intervals. Use warm water enema daily during this period. II. Fruit and milk for further two weeks, adding milk to each fruit meal. III. Thereafter, adopt the following diet: - 1. Upon arising: 25 black raisins soaked overnight in water along with water in which they are soaked and the water kept overnight in a copper vessel. 2. Breakfast: Fresh fruit, a glass of milk sweetened with honey and some nuts, especially almonds. 3. Lunch: A bowl of freshly prepared steamed vegetables, two or three whole wheat wheat tortilla, butter and a glass of buttermilk. 4. Mid-afternoon: A glass of carrot or orange juice. 5. Dinner: A large bowl of fresh green vegetable salad, alfalfa or green gram bean sprouts and cottage cheese. Note: Repeat an all diet for 3 days, followed by fruit and milk diet for 5 days at regular intervals.
Avoid: Meats, sugar, white flour, tea, coffee, refined and processed food, fried foods, condiments and pickles. B - OTHER MEASURES 1. Daily dry friction and sponge. 2. Breathing and other light exercises. 3. Sun and air baths. 4. Hot Epsom-salts bath just before retiring twice weekly. 5. Avoid over work, excess of all kinds and heedless worry.
