Arogyappacha fruit to cure fatigue and tiredness
Fatigue is a major cause of diseases and accidents in modern day society.
The fast pace of our modern day lifestyle leaves us with a chronic feeling of fatigue that is difficult to get rid off. Most pills and tonics for combating fatigue have proved ineffective and the search is on for some miracle drug that will allow us to feel rejuvenated and rested.
The answer might lie in the Agasthya hills in the state of Kerala in India. These hills are occupied by a tribe called the Kani.
The Kani tribes-people demonstrate amazing levels of stamina and are able to walk long distances through the hilly region without getting tired. They attribute their stamina to a fruit known as Arogyappacha. This is the fruit of the tree Trichphus zeylanicus. The Kani eat the unripe fruit of this tree when they are feeling tired, and according to them it gives them an instant burst of stamina and energy.
Scientists from the All India Coordinated Research Project on Ethnobiology attempted to corroborate this fact and went to the hills to investigate these reports. According to the scientists, the fruit has an acrid taste but it does give the body an extra spurt of energy and relieves tiredness.
This fact was further reinforced when some of the research workers themselves consumed the fruit and reported these rejuvenating effects.
This property of the fruit of the Trichphus zeylanicus is not mentioned in any of the ancient medical texts of the region, and hence it is up to researchers to carry out further research to verify these facts by carrying out controlled trials. If this property of the fruit is indeed verified beyond a doubt and it is found to have no undesirable side effects in humans, it could prove to be a boon to help people in bustling cities combat chronic fatigue. |
