Pumpkins Seeds
Pumpkins do go beyond the common Jack O lantern or pumpkin pie.



Benign prostatic hypertrophy is a condition that commonly affects older men. Factors that contribute to the over enlargement of the prostate could be over generation of testosterone cells and dihydrotestosterone. Pumpkin seed oil seem to have prostate-supportive components that stop this multiplication of prostate cells by testosterone and DHT.



The exact components that bring about this effect are still unclear.

If pumpkin seeds were consumed instead of the oil, it is still not clear what amount of seeds require would trigger the same effects as that by pumpkin seed oil.  Pumpkin seeds are rich in carotenoids and omega 3 fats. Though men with a higher carotenoid amount in their diet are not as susceptible to BPH, the potential prostate benefits for both carotenoids and omega 3 are still vague and have led to an interest in the study of the healthful benefits of pumpkin seeds— in particular the carotenoids present in them.





Pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc and this helps build bone mineral density. This protects against osteoporotic fractures and arthritic pains. Arthritic aches are often treated with anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin. Even though it is the non-steroidal, it increases the level of lipid peroxides that actually aggravates arthritis. Pumpkin seeds had the same recuperative effects as indomethacin without the bad after effects. Pumpkin seed extracts in fact help lower cholesterol levels.

Phytosterols are naturally found in a variety of nuts such as and grains such as corn, soybean, and pine tree corns. So next time you feel you need snack, reach out for your nuts and grains. Phytosterol levels are highest in sunflower seeds and pistachios closely followed by pumpkin seeds. With snacks that are naturally rich in phytosterol and cardio-protective fiber, nutrients and fats, need you reach for those salted chips again?

An excellent source of minerals such as zinc, phosphorous, iron, magnesium, copper and manganese, pumpkin seeds abound in protein and vitamin K.



With anthelmintic properties, they help rid the body of al unwanted parasites such as tapeworms. The high content of quality makes them the right kind of snack to improve potency for both sexes. Consumption of pumpkins also clears out minor kidney disorders like water retention.

A storehouse of traditional nutrients, pumpkin seeds are excellent sources of minerals and phytosterols — a compound quite similar to cholesterol and if abundant in the diet should bring down  believed to reduce blood levels of cholesterol, enhance the immune response and decrease risk of certain cancers.
